Do your own environmental audit | Eco Audit - Quick Guide | Step 1: Commit | Step 2: Review | Step 3: Plan | Step 4: Communicate

Do your own environmental audit

You will need to involve your whole community

An energy audit measures how much energy you use, how it is used and where you can save.

A successful energy reduction plan for your place of worship (and office and home) involves 4 stages:

>Statement of Commitment
>Review your current position
>Establish an energy plan
>Communicate your achievement

For a complete guide to doing your own energy audit, download ARC's own Climate Change Partnership handbook from our Downloads page. Alternatively, the following pages summarise how you can work together to do an audit.

If you can’t measure it, you can’t manage it

Sustainable Building

An African representative at the 2000 International Conference on Sustainable Building was asked what sustainable building meant in Africa. He answered that it meant cultural knowledge more than technical know-how. He summarised its principles as:
Sufficiency – use no more than you need
Spirituality – respect life and relationships between species
Stewardship – we cannot own nature, but we can take good care of it
Social Responsibility – without care and respect for others there can be no peace and prosperity
