The Ranthambore Tiger Reserve in Rajasthan is the most famous tiger park in India, with over 40 tigers. Inside the park is an old fort and a small temple, The Ganesh Temple.
50,000 pilgrims come to the Temple each week and around 2 million pilgrims come over the three-day Ganesh festival in August each year- again disturbing the wildlife and leaving their rubbish behind.
In the picture above, for example, we can see the monkeys around the temple eating plastic bags left by pilgrims.
By joining the Green Pilgrimage Network the temple authorities and the park authorities want to make pilgrimage in tiger reserves more sensitive to the needs of the wildlife and their habitat.
