Nairobi 2012

From September 17th to 20th ARC will celebrate the launch of long-term action plans on the environment by our faith partners in Cameroon, Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, Rwanda, South Africa, Sudan, Tanzania, Uganda and Zimbabwe.

TUESDAY 18 SEPTEMBER

09.00-12.30: OPENING SESSION and lunch

Opening prayer: Archbishop Eliud Wabukala, Primate of the Anglican Church of Kenya

Welcoming addresses by: Archbishop Valentine Mokiwa, President of the All Africa Conference of Churches and Primate of the Anglican Church of Tanzania, and ARC Secretary General Martin Palmer

Speeches by: Elin Bergithe Rognlie, Acting Ambassador of the Norwegian Embassy in Kenya; Mounkaila Goumandakoye, Regional Director, United Nations Environment Programme Regional Office for Africa; Dr Ali Mohamed, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Environment and Mineral Resources, Government of Kenya

Presentation of certificates by Sir Miles Hunt-Davis, International President of ARC

Songs and prayers by children of the All Saints Cathedral Primary School and Nairobi Muslim Academy

Blessing and presentation of tree seedlings to Kenyan faith leaders and to the school children

Media interviews: There will be an opportunity to interview faith leaders from 12.30-1pm, Sept 18.

Farming God’s Way – principles and implementation; Spreading Farming God’s Way & eco bursaries

16.30-18.00 SESSION SIX – SUSTAINABLE AGRICULTURE & ENGAGING YOUR COMMUNITY

Monasteries as demonstration sites for environmental conservation and farmer training; Leading the way with eco mosques; Promotion of low cost sustainable agriculture methods: how this works in practice

18.30 onwards: RECEPTION AND WWF EXHIBITION: Faith commitments on wildlife

Gomba Women’s Project, Uganda; Women-led nurseries; Engaging women’s groups

10.45-13.00 SESSION EIGHT – PLANTING FOR THE FUTURE

Development of community tree nurseries and woodlots in Northern Ghana; Engaging the community in tree planting; Partnership

14.30-18.30: WILDLIFE TRADE FIELD TRIP

Half-day trip for religious delegates with WWF to Nairobi National Park to celebrate the faith commitments to wildlife protection
