Two faith centres shortlisted for UK sustainability awards

Two of ARC's key UK partners - the Methodist International Centre and Friends House - have been recognised in this year's prestigious Sustainability Awards, run by the City of London.
MIC, the Methodists' London hotel and conference centre, was shortlisted in the Environmental Management in SMEs (small & medium enterprises) category, while the Quakers' London headquarters and conference centre, Friends House, was shortlisted in the Sustainable Procurement category.
Although run by the City of London, the awards are national which means that both MIC and Friends House have been recognised as being among the top five organisations in their category throughout the UK.
Both MIC and Friends House have been working hard to transform all their operations - from energy use, waste, food sourcing and procurement - to be sustainable and environmentally friendly as well as consistent with their values and beliefs. Both are following an ethos of Christian care and duty.
ARC director Martin Palmer said: "Many faith groups talk about caring for nature; about what their teachings show and how we should respond to the environment problems around us.
"MIC and Friends House have gone one better over the last few years. They have become faith consistent: ensuring that their practice reflects their preaching and in ways which have now drawn the interest and admiration of the wider civil society.
"ARC celebrates the success of two of its key partners in a worldwide programme they are working with us on, to help all major faiths live, purchase and eat environmentally."

MIC to co-host ARC's Faith in Food workshopEnvironmental management and sustainable procurement will be among the subjects under discussions at an ARC workshop for faith groups and secular organisations which is being co-hosted by MIC in April.
The workshop is to discuss ARC's Faith in Food initiative which is about faith institutions honouring their values in the food they eat, buy and produce. It will be held at MIC on Thursday April 7.
